In South Sudan…
Half of all girls are married by 18 years of age.
The maternal mortality rate is the highest in the world.
Forced marriage (including of children), domestic servitude, rape, abuse and trafficking are common.
Girls and women receive little or no education and therefore have few opportunities for work or independence.
Growing numbers of street children are being prostituted.
According to one study*, “89% of women in the sex industry say they want to escape but see no other means for survival”
